Group Tours

Yes, we offer group tours!

Our tours begin in our Tour Center with a video on wind energy, how wind turbines work, and more. We will provide one or more knowledgeable tour guides to make a brief presentation, including the history of our wind farm and the evolution of wind turbines, and answer questions about wind energy and our energy mix in the area. We can customize content when requested.

Our group tours are tailored based on your group and vehicle’s size and specific needs.

Small Motor Coach or Van

Following the orientation and Q&A, our guide will “step on” your vehicle for the balance of the tour. Shorter vehicles (we use 28 feet as a threshold) can safely drive on the wind farm’s dirt and gravel roads with our guide navigating for your driver. Our guide will then direct the driver through the wind resource area along local public roads, suggesting one or more stops for extended narration. This includes the nearby electrical switching station, an energy storage facility, and a large natural gas “peaker” plant.

Weather and individual mobility permitting, we can offer the same hybrid option as the Large Vehicle tour.

Large Vehicles

We offer a hybrid walking and driving tour for groups arriving in vehicles longer than 28 feet. Your bus or coach should park alongside our perimeter fence, offering easy egress for your driver. Following an orientation and Q&A in the Tour Center, guests will enjoy a short guided walking tour through our historical artifacts to view a modern production turbine and snap group photos. The walking distance is at most 300 feet.

Our guide will then join your guests in your vehicle, directing the driver through the wind resource area along local public roads and suggesting one or more stops for extended narration. This includes the nearby electrical switching station, an energy storage facility, and a large natural gas “peaker” plant.

Note we do not operate vehicles other than our 6-passenger golf carts. We are happy to refer you to a local van and bus charter company if you’d like. We defer to your professional driver to make all decisions about your safety and theirs. We will suggest places to stop for narration, taking photos, or interacting with the exhibits.

Be sure to dress appropriately for the weather and wind, including closed-toe shoes and sunscreen on most days. If you wear a hat, be sure it has a strap to secure it from blowing away.

Group and Chartered tours are available year-round and scheduled at least one week in advance.
